With regards to the practice, I have 5 main tips to make learning the tarot an easier task:
1️⃣ Choose an easy-to-use tarot deck. Ideally, your first deck should have clear symbology and illustrations that refer to the meaning of the card in each of the 78 cards, such as the Rider Waite Smith (RWS) and its derivatives. My recommendation is to avoid a very abstract deck at first, at least until you are more familiar with the meanings of the cards.
2️⃣ Pick one card a day and think about it. Study its meanings and try to relate them to your feelings and to the events that are happening in your life at the moment. See if the card made sense to you and why. If you think the card doesn’t reflect what you are experiencing, take note of it.
3️⃣ Start writing a tarot diary. Write down the cards you draw daily and the meanings you learn from each new book. Over time, you will develop your own view and interpretation of the cards, based on your personal experience.
4️⃣ Do not use reversed cards at first. Tarot cards can be interpreted in different ways, depending on whether they are on their normal position or reversed, that is, upside down. At the beginning of your studies, it is better to use the cards only in their normal position, to make the reading easier. Over time, if you want, you can use reversed cards to add depth to your reading. Using reversed cards exponentially increases the possibilities of card interpretation, but it can also confuse those who are starting out.
5️⃣ Offer readings to your friends. When you feel a little more confident doing readings for yourself, offer readings for your friends and family. It’s an excellent way to practice and see the tarot meanings unfold in practice. Ask for feedback, exchange ideas, and be sure to write down your discoveries! Constant practice is essential to improve your card reading skills.
✨ By following these tips you will learn not only to read the cards, but also to better understand your life and yourself!
